Trade name of the medicinal product: Frontline Spot-on.
International non-proprietary name: fipronil.
Dosage form: solution for external use.
Structure
Frontline spot-on contains fipronil – 10% as an active ingredient.
Excipients: polyvidone – 5%, polysorbate 80 – 5%, butylhydroxyanisole – 0.02%, butylhydrotoluene – 0.01% and diethylene glycol of monoethyl ether – up to 100%.
Pharmacological properties
Frontline spot-on is an insectoacaricidal drug of contact action.
Fipronil is an insectoacaricide of the phenylpyrazole group, the mechanism of its contact action is to block the GABA-dependent receptors of arthropods, disrupt the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of ectoparasites.
Frontline spot-on is active against:
- mature fleas Ctenocephalides spp .;
- власоедов Trichodectes canis, Felicola subrostratus;
- ticks (all developmental phases) Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor variabilis, Amblyomma americanum, Ixodes holocyclus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes ricinus, Haemaphysalis spp. including Haemaphysalis longicornis, Haemaphysalis flava, Haemaphysalis campanulata, Haemaphysalis leachi;
- lice Linognathus setosus;
- scabies mites Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis;
- mosquito Aedes aegypti.
After applying the drug to the skin, fipronil is gradually distributed over the entire surface of the body within 24 hours and, practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation, accumulates in the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands, has a long-term contact effect (up to 56-60 days), is metabolized to form derivatives active against ectoparasites (mainly sulfones).
A single treatment of the animal ensures the elimination of fleas and ticks within 24 – 48 hours. After treatment of cats, the protective effect against ticks lasts up to 4 weeks, against insects – 4-6 weeks. After treatment of dogs, the protective effect against ticks lasts up to 5 weeks, against insects – 4-12 weeks.
Frontline spot-on, according to the degree of impact on the body, belongs to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it does not have skin irritating and resorptive toxic effects, does not have embryotoxic and teratogenic effects, if ingested slightly irritating to eyes. The drug is toxic to rabbits, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.
Application procedure
Frontline spot-on is prescribed to dogs and cats, including pregnant and lactating animals, with entomoses, otodectosis, tick infestation, as well as in the complex therapy of allergic dermatitis caused by fleas.
Frontline spot-on is applied to animals by a single topical application to dry intact skin using pipettes of various sizes.
Before processing, remove the pipette from the blister, lightly tap the preparation into the extended part of the pipette, break off the tip of the pipette along the notch line. The hair of the animal is spread at the base of the neck between the shoulder blades (in the area of the withers) and, pressing the pipette, the drug is applied to the skin in one place in a dose, according to the table.

Repeated processing of animals is carried out according to indications, but not more often than once every 4 weeks.
In order to prevent re-infestation of animals with fleas, it is recommended to treat all cats that live together, as well as replace bedding or treat them with an insecticidal agent in accordance with the instructions for its use.
For the treatment of otodectosis, Frontline spot-on is instilled once into each ear for 4-6 drops (drops must be injected into both ears). For even distribution of the drug, the auricle is folded in half and its base is lightly massaged. The remainder of the drug in the pipette used (based on the weight of the animal) is applied to the skin between the shoulder blades. In case of complication of otodectosis by otitis media, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug (including a history).
Application features
The peculiarities of the action of the drug during its first use and withdrawal were not revealed.
It is prohibited to use Frontline spot-on for patients with infectious diseases, convalescent and weakened animals, kittens under 8 weeks of age, cats weighing less than 1 kg.
When the tympanic membrane is perforated, the auricular use of the drug during the treatment of otodectosis is not allowed.
Do not allow the drug to come into contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes of animals, as well as apply the drug to damp or damaged skin.
Animals should not be washed and bathed; they should not be allowed into natural waters within 48 hours after treatment.
Violations of the drug use regimen should be avoided, as this can lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. If the next treatment is missed, it should be carried out as soon as possible in the same dose.
Frontline Spot-on should not be used in conjunction with other insecticidal and acaricidal preparations for the treatment of animals.
Frontline Spot is not intended for the treatment of productive animals.
Overdose
In case of a significant overdose, the animal may experience excessive salivation, muscle tremors, vomiting, disturbance from the respiratory system, and hypersthesia. In this case, the drug is washed off with water and detergent, antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal.
Side effects
When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. Very rarely, at the site of application of the drug, gluing of wool, a mild skin reaction (itching, hair loss, redness of the skin) is possible, if the drug gets inside – excessive salivation, hyperesthesia, depression and neurological signs, vomiting. In case of increased individual sensitivity and the appearance of allergic reactions, the drug should be washed off with water and detergent and, if necessary, antihistamines should be prescribed.
Personal prevention measures
When carrying out therapeutic and prophylactic measures using Front Line Spot-on, it is recommended to use rubber gloves. Smoking, drinking and eating are not allowed during work. At the end of work, you should thoroughly wash your hands with warm water and soap.
Do not iron and allow children to come into contact with treated animals, allow animals to bed with people until the site of application of the drug is completely dry (within 24 hours after treatment), allow people with signs of allergic, respiratory and skin diseases to work with the drug. People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with Frontline Spot-on. In case of accidental contact of the drug on the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they must be rinsed with plenty of water. In case of allergic reactions or in case of accidental ingestion of the drug into the human body, you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have instructions for use or a label with you).
It is forbidden to use empty pipettes from under the medicinal product for household purposes; they are placed in a plastic bag and disposed of with household waste.
Release form
Frontline Spot It is produced in 0.5 ml packs in polyethylene pipettes with a break-off tip, placed individually in blisters.
Storage conditions
Store and transport the medicinal product in the manufacturer’s sealed packaging, separately from food and feed, in a place protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature from 0 ° C to 30 ° C.

Shelf life
Shelf life – 3 years from the date of production, subject to storage conditions. It is forbidden to use the medicinal product after the expiration date.
