Composition:
1 tablet (0.5 g) contains active ingredients: pyrantel pamoate (embonate) – 144 mg; praziquantel 50 mg
Pharmacological properties:
ATCvet QP52A, anti-trematode, anti-nematode and anti-cestode veterinary drugs (QP52AA01, praziquantel; QP52AF02, pyrantel)
The spectrum of anthelmintic action of the drug Vormikil is based on the pharmacological action of the compound drugs – pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel.
Pyrantela pamoate (embonate) is active against nematodes (round helminths), acts on their cholinergic receptors, causing irreversible spastic paralysis. Dead nematodes are removed from the body of animals to the outside by peristaltic bowel movements. Nevertheless, pyrantel is not active against the migratory larval stages of helminths.
In mammals, pyrantel is poorly adsorbed in the alimentary canal, and after per os administration at a dose of 10 mg / kg of body weight, its concentration in blood plasma is 0.005-0.13 μg / ml in 1-3 hours. Pyrantel, which is adsorbed to the circulatory system, is partially metabolized in the liver to N-Methyl-1,3-propanediamine.
Praziquantel is active against cestodes (tapeworms), is rapidly absorbed by the entire surface of the parasite and is evenly distributed throughout the body. Praziquantel increases the permeability of membranes for calcium ions, causes an increase in muscle activity, which is replaced by contraction and spastic paralysis, and causes the destruction of the outer cuticle in adult forms of cestodes. In some cases, tapeworms, by the action of enzymes of the digestive system, are completely digested in the alimentary canal and are not found in feces.
In mammals, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the alimentary canal. Its highest concentration in blood plasma is observed 1-2 hours after administration, it is rapidly metabolized and excreted up to 80% in the form of metabolites by the kidneys for 4 days, while 90% is excreted in the first 24 hours.
