Pharmacological properties
Fumisan belongs to the pharmacotherapeutic group: insecto-acaricidal agents.
The synthetic pyrethroid fluvalinate, which
is part of Fumisan, has a pronounced contact acaricidal effect against the causative agent of varroatosis in bees – the Varroa destructor mite.
The mechanism of action of fluvalinate is to block the transmission of nerve impulses, which causes impaired coordination of movements, paralysis
and death of ticks. The healing effect is achieved when the bees come into contact with the Fumisan plates.
Fluvalinate enters the hemolymph of the bee, and through it into the body of the tick, causing its death.
Fumisan, according to the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, belongs to
low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), does not possess
locally irritating, resorptive-toxic, carcinogenic, embryo-toxic and teratogenic properties. In recommended doses, it is not toxic for bees, does not adversely affect the quality of commercial beekeeping products.
Application procedure
Fumisan is used to treat varroatosis in honey bees.
It is forbidden to use Fumisan for treating honeybee colonies during the period of active honey collection.
When working with the drug, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety measures provided for when working with
drugs. At the end of work, hands should be washed with warm water and soap. In case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they should be immediately washed with plenty of water. People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with the drug Fumisan. In case of allergic reactions or accidental ingestion of the drug into the human body
you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have instructions for use of the drug or a label with you).
The drug is not intended for use in warm-blooded animals, and an indication of the possibility and peculiarities of its use in females during pregnancy and feeding of offspring is not applicable.
Fumisan is used to treat varroatosis of honey bees in the spring
(after examining colonies and mass flight of bees) before the start of honey collection and in the fall
after honey pumping, by placing 1-2 plates for
7-12 nesting frames inside the hive .
For small families of bees (up to 6 frames), layering and cores,
one plate is enough , placed in the center of the nest. The drug is left in families for a
period not exceeding 4 weeks.
Before use, it is necessary to make a hole in the plate, then
thread a metal or wooden pin and fix the plate
vertically in the center of the interframe space. In a weak family, one plate is suspended between 3 and 4 honeycomb frames; in the strong one – one plate between 3
and 4, the second plate – between 7 and 8 honeycomb frames.
In order to avoid the ingress of the active substances of Fumisan into commercial honey, the
processing of bee colonies is stopped, removing the plates from the hives, no later
than 20 days before the start of honey collection or carried out in the fall after pumping out commercial honey.
There are no side effects and complications in bees when using Fumisan
in accordance with this instruction, no contraindications have been established.
Symptoms of overdose in bees when using the drug were not identified.
There is no information about the incompatibility of Fumisan with other medicinal
preparations for bees, feed additives and feed.
The peculiarities of the action during the first use of the drug and when it is
canceled have not been established.
Violation of the recommended interval between treatments of bee colonies should be avoided, as this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic
efficacy. If the next treatment is missed, it should be carried out
as soon as possible in the same dose, then the interval between treatments does not change.
Honey obtained from bee colonies treated with Fumisan
, it is allowed to pump out not earlier than 10 days after the last treatment and use it on a general basis.
