Pharmacological properties
PBX vet: QP53, ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents (QP53AC54, permethrin, combinations)
Advantix® is an ectoparasiticide that contains the active ingredients imidacloprid, which has a chloronicotinyl structure, and permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. This combination of substances acts as an insecticide, acaricide and provides repellent activity of the drug thereby reducing the risk of transmission of canine diseases (CVBD) such as borreliosis, rickettsiosis, ehrlichiosis, leishmaniasis.
The active substance of the drug Imidacloprid, 1- (6-Chloro-3-pyridylmethyl) -N-nitro-imidazolidin-2-ylideneamine is an ectoparasiticide belonging to the group of chloronicotinyl compounds. It has a high affinity for nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors in postsynaptic areas of the central nervous system of fleas. It connects to the flea nicotinergic receptor located on the postsynaptic neuron, interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses, which subsequently leads to the death of the parasite.
Weak interaction of imidacloprid with mammalian nicotinic receptors causes a low level of penetration through the blood-brain barrier, so imidacloprid has virtually no effect on the CNS of animals. Imidacloprid is effective against flea larvae and adults.
Following topical administration, imidacloprid is rapidly distributed throughout the animal’s skin within one day of application. It is clinically proven that the systemic absorption of the drug is very low.
Permethrin – cyclopropanecarboxylic acid, 3- (2,2-dichloroethyl) 2.2-dimethyl -, (3-phenoxyphenyl) methyl ester – belongs to the first class of pyrethroids. Pyrethroids cause disturbances in the electrical conductivity of sodium tubules in vertebrates and invertebrates. Pyrethroids impair the ability of sodium tubules to activate and inactivate. This causes overexcitation and tremor, dorsal muscle cramps and death of the parasite.
Advantix® – a drug for external use, after application to the skin is rapidly distributed over the entire body surface of the animal. The effectiveness of both active substances on the skin and fur of animals lasts for 4 weeks.
Application
Prevention and treatment of dogs with mites (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor spp.), Fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.), Lice (Trichodectes canis), hair follicles. Repelling mosquitoes, gnats and flies in dogs.
One-time treatment protects animals from fleas and ticks for 4 weeks.
The drug can also be used to treat allergic flea dermatitis.
Dosage
The minimum recommended dose is 10 mg of imidacloprid and 50 mg of permethrin per 1 kg of body weight. According to the body weight of the animals it is recommended to use the appropriate pipettes of the drug:

A single treatment protects animals from tick infestation for 4 weeks.
Re-infestation of fleas from the environment is possible in 6 weeks, so it is recommended to constantly treat the habitats of animals.
A single treatment protects animals from mosquitoes, gnats and flies for 4 weeks, which reduces the risk of communicable diseases.
The drug remains effective when wetting the animal’s fur, but depending on the presence of fleas in the environment, additional treatment is allowed. In such cases, the drug can be used no more than once a week.
Dogs can be bathed with shampoo before treatment with Advantix®- or 2 weeks after treatment.
Application method:
Remove the pipette from the package, remove the cap in an upright position, turn it over and place it on the pipette, thus removing the foil.
When handling the animals must be in a standing position.
Dogs up to 10 kg:
Divide the hair between the shoulder blades so that the skin is visible. The drug is applied to intact skin. Place the narrow end of the pipette on the skin, squeeze the pipette firmly several times, and apply all the contents directly to the skin.
Dogs over 10 kg:
The drug is applied at 3-4 points along the spine, starting between the shoulder blades and ending at the root of the tail. At each drawing it is necessary to develop wool so that the skin was visible. The drug is applied to intact skin. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and gently squeeze the pipette and apply the contents of the pipette evenly along the spine. When applying
of the drug on the skin, avoid getting the drug in one place and do not allow the animal to lick the applied product.
