Previcox tablets 57 mg and 227 mg belong to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Firocoxib, which is part of the drug, is a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), selectively disrupts the formation of prostaglandins involved in the formation of an inflammatory reaction, suppresses the exudative and proliferative phases of inflammation. It acts mainly in the focus of inflammation and practically does not affect the production of prostaglandins, which regulate renal blood flow and the integrity of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. After oral administration to dogs at the recommended dose, firocoxib is rapidly absorbed, the maximum concentration in the blood is reached after 1.25 hours. The half-life is 8 hours. Firocoxib is almost completely bound to blood proteins, metabolized in the liver, and excreted in the bile through the intestines. Previcox tablets 57 mg and 227 mg in terms of the degree of impact on the body belong to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses they do not have a sensitizing, teratogenic, and embryotoxic effect.
Previcox tablets 57mg and 227mg are prescribed for dogs as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic agent in the treatment of osteoarthritis, as well as after orthopedic, dental, and soft tissue operations. A contraindication to use is the increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug (including in the anamnesis). It is forbidden to use the drug in pregnant and lactating females, puppies under 10 weeks of age, and dogs weighing less than 3 kg, as well as animals with gastrointestinal bleeding, blood diseases, hemorrhagic syndrome, and severe renal and hepatic insufficiency. Previcox tablets 57 mg and 227 mg are administered to dogs individually orally once a day at a dose of 5 mg firocoxib per 1 kg of animal weight. Previcox tablets 57 mg and 227 mg have an attractive aroma and taste, therefore they are readily eaten by dogs, in case of refusal of the drug, it is fed with food. The duration of the course of treatment for osteoarthritis depends on the condition of the animal and is determined by the attending veterinarian. The use of the drug for more than 90 days should be carried out under the regular supervision of a veterinarian. To relieve postoperative pain and inflammation during operations on soft tissues, orthopedic and dental operations, the drug is used 2 hours before the start of the operation, and then, if necessary, once a day for 2-3 days. In case of an overdose of the drug, the animal may experience excessive salivation, an upset of the gastrointestinal tract, and depression. The peculiarities of the action at the first use of the drug and at its cancellation were not revealed. Violations of the drug use regimen should be avoided, as this can lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. If the next dose of the drug is missed, its use must be resumed in the prescribed dosage and according to the same scheme. When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. Previcox tablets 57 mg and 227 mg should not be used concomitantly with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticosteroids.
