Sodium ions penetrate the cell membrane through various transport mechanisms, in particular the sodium-potassium pump (Na-K-ATPase). Sodium contributes to the transmission of signals in neurons, electrophysiological processes of the heart, metabolic processes in the kidneys. It is excreted from the body after renal reabsorption in the urine, a small amount in the feces and sweat.

Levamisole is an often recommended medication for treating parasites, especially camallanus worm. Unfortunately this medication must be dosed low enough to keep the fish safe and it does not always kill the parasites. More often than not it will only paralyze the parasite. This is why it is critical to dose carefully and to do the recommended deep gravel vacs to clean up paralyzed parasites. One added benefit of treating with Levamisole is that it gives the immune system a boost and the fish may appear to be healthy suddenly.
For a short novocaine blockade of nerves, the udder (according to Logvin) in the supraveolar space
the affected quarter is injected with 150-200 ml of a 0.5% solution of novocaine.
For blockade of the external sacral nerve (according to Bashkirov) in loose fiber between the large and small
80-100 ml of 0.5% novocaine solution are injected with the lumbar muscles of the corresponding side.
For paranephral blockade (according to Vishnevsky), the drug is injected into the perinephric tissue.
Doses and methods of administration of the drug depend on the purpose of use (possible infiltration of the solution into
tissue, to the place of passage of the nerve, intravenously or intraarterially). It is also possible to use
drug as a solvent for dry forms of antibiotics.
