Baycox analog 2,5% – Solution for poultry 1 ml x 50 ampules
Description
Transparent colorless or yellowish solution.
Composition
1 ml of the drug contains the active substance – toltrazuril – 25 mg Excipients: triethanolamine, polyethylene glycol-400.
Pharmacological properties
ATS vet code: QP51A – Antiprotozoal drugs. QP51AJ01 – Toltrazuril.
Toltrazuril, which is part of the drug TOLTRACOX, belongs to the triazinetrione group. It has an eimeriocidal effect at all stages of development of pathogens, causing changes in their microstructure, which are primarily caused by edema of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, abnormal changes in the perinuclear space and disorders of cell division. Toltrazuril causes a decrease in the activity of respiratory chain enzymes in parasites.
TOLTRACOX is effective against all types of Eimeria (Eimeria acervulina, E. anseris, E. brunetti, E. necatrix, E. mitis, E. adenoides, E. truncata) of poultry. TOLTRACOX is moderately toxic to birds and does not interfere with the formation of immunity to Eimeria.
After oral administration, toltrazuril is slowly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching maximum plasma concentrations after 24 hours. The bioavailability of the drug is 70%. In the body of birds, toltrazuril is partially metabolized to form sulfoxide and sulfone derivatives.
Toltrazuril is excreted slowly (the half-life is approximately 76 hours) in unchanged form and as the main metabolite (sulfone), mainly with feces and partially with urine.
Use
Treatment of poultry (broiler chickens, replacement young chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks) for eimeria infections caused by:
in chickens (broiler chickens, replacement young chickens): E. acervulina, E. brunetti, E. tenella, E. maxima, E. necatrix, E. mitis;
in turkeys: E. adenoides, E. meleagrimitis;
in geese and ducks: E. anseris, E. nosens, E. anatis, E. danailovi, E. truncata.
Dosage
TOLTRACOX is administered orally with drinking water in the following doses (the dose is 7 mg toltrazuril / kg body weight of the bird or 0.28 ml of the drug per kg body weight per day):
1 ml per 1 l of drinking water, which is given for 2 days (48 hours);
3 ml per 1 l of drinking water, which is given every 8 hours for two days.
To ensure the correct dose, it is necessary to accurately calculate the total weight of the treated animals and the daily water consumption.
The drinking water with the medicine should be renewed every 24 hours. The solution with the drug is used as the only source of drinking water. If a precipitate appears, stir the solution before use. If necessary, the treatment course of the bird is repeated after 5 days. The solution of the drug in drinking water is used within 24 hours.
Contraindications
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients.
Precautions
Side effects
None known.
Special precautions for use
As with any anticoccidial drugs, frequent and prolonged use of antiprotozoal drugs of the same class may lead to the development of resistance. It is important to adhere to the recommended dosage to minimise the risk of resistance.
If resistance is present, the use of another antiprotozoal agent from a different class or with a different mechanism of action should be considered.
For best results, treatment should be initiated before clinical signs of disease have spread to the entire flock.
The veterinary medicinal product is a potent solution and should not be administered undiluted.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes)
A reduction in drinking water consumption may be the first sign of overdose. This is only observed after exceeding the recommended dose by more than 10 times.
Special precautions
To prevent the occurrence of eymeriosis, it is recommended to eliminate any shortcomings in poultry breeding, poultry houses should be kept clean and dry.
It is recommended to treat all animals in the pen. For best results, treatment should be started before clinical signs of the disease spread to the entire group.
