Albendazole broad spectrum anthelmintic

albendazole – 75 mg

Description

Tablets of white or light gray color, round or oval, flat.

Pharmacological properties

Broad-spectrum anthelmintic from the group of benzimidazoles. Inhibits protein (tubular) synthesis, resulting in impaired supply and intracellular transport of nutrients, metabolism of substrates (adenosine triphosphate and glucose), inhibition of fumarate reductase reduces mitochondrial reactions, leading to the death of parasites.

Effective against some larvae, as well as young and mature nematodes that parasitize the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract of animals, cestodes in the preimaginal and imaginal stages of the life cycle, adult trematodes.

Indication

Deworming of animals with parasitic diseases caused by:

• cattle:
  • gastrointestinal and airway nematodes: Haemonchus placei, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Oesophagostomum spp., Trichostrongylus spp., Ostertagia spp., Cooperia oncophora, Chabertia spp., Neoascaris vitulorum, Strongyloides papillosus, Mungle;
  • cestodes: Moniezia spp., Thysaniesia giardia;
  • trematodes: Fasciola hepatica (mature), Dicrocaelium lanceatum.
• sheep, goats:
  • gastrointestinal and airway nematodes: Haemonchus contortus, Bunostomum trigonocephalum, Oesophagostomum spp., Trichostrongylus spp., Ostertagia spp., Cooperia oncophora, Scriabinema ovis, Chabertia ovina, Strongyloides papillosus, Dictylaus;
  • cestodes: Moniezia spp., Avitellina centripunctata, Thysaniesia giardia;
  • trematodes: Fasciola hepatica (mature), Dicrocaelium lanceatum.
• horses:
  • gastrointestinal and respiratory nematodes: Parascaris equorum, Oxyuris equi, Strongylus spp., Triodonthophorus spp., Cyathostomum spp., Cylicodontophorus spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Strongyloides westeri, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi;
  • cestodes: Anoplocephala magna, Anoplocephala perfoliata, Paranoplocephala mamillana.
• dogs, cats, fur animals:
  • nematodes: Toxocara spp., Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria spp., Trichuris spp.;
  • cestodes: Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus granulosus, Diphyllobothrium latum;
  • Trematodami: Opisthorchis felineus.

Contraindication

Do not prescribe to females in the first third of pregnancy, ewes during mating and in the first month after hatching.

Method of application and dosage

Before use, the drug is mixed with food and given once at the beginning of morning feeding.

For individual deworming of adult ruminants, forced tablets are placed on the root of the tongue.

For cattle grazing on pastures, therapeutic and prophylactic deworming is carried out at the beginning and end of the stall period.

In the disease of ruminants with fasciolosis, the drug is used at any time of year. Depending on the intensity of the invasion, which is determined by the average number of fasciol eggs in five fecal samples, the drug is used in the following doses per 10 kg of body weight:

• up to 4 eggs (low intensity) – 1.3 g;
• 5-10 eggs (medium intensity) – 1.5-1.7 g

Given that albendazole is ineffective against fasciol larvae, the first preventive deworming is carried out 2-2.5 months after the end of the grazing period, and the second – no later than 10-15 days before grazing animals on pasture.

Reservation

After the last application of the drug slaughter of cattle, sheep, goats for meat is allowed in 10 days. People can eat liver, kidneys, lungs, heart of ruminants in 20 days, milk – in 2 days.
