Composition

Superium spinosad tablets for cats and dogs as the active substance contains spinosad-50.0%.

Excipients: artificial flavoring RS-0125, microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon anhydride, magnesium stearate.

Pharmacological properties

ATCvet QP53BX, other ectoparasiticides for systemic use (QP53BX03, SP and Nosad).

The active substance is spinosad-insecticide from the class of spinosyns, which are non-antibacterial tetracyclic macrolides. Spinosad contains two main factors – spinosyn Ata spinosyn D, which are produced by natural bacteria Saccharopolyspora spinosa.

Spinosad, which is part of the drug superium spinosad, tablets for cats and dogs, active against ectoparasites:

Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea),

Ctenocephalides canis (dog flea),

Pulex irritans (human flea),

Xenopsylla cheopis (rat flea),

Altica lythri (earth flea).

The active ingredient is spinosad, reduces the number of fleas and the severity of atopic flea dermatitis in cats and dogs. Monthly oral spinosad is a practical way to treat flea infestation and allergic flea dermatitis in cats and dogs.

Beef-flavored artificial flavoring helps animals better eat the drug. The enterosorbent is represented by microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose and colloidal silicon anhydride. Sorbents are involved in the removal of toxins and other components of the life of fleas from the body. Croscarmellose sodium helps other components of the drug to dissolve faster in the body and create favorable conditions for the recovery of animals. Magnesium stearate stabilizer.

The mechanism of insecticidal action of spinosad on insects is the activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). When using spinosad in ectoparasites, there are involuntary muscle contractions and tremors as a result of activation of motor neurons. Prolonged hyperexcitation caused by spinosad leads to the development of muscle spasms, tremor, paralysis and death of ectoparasites.

The drug superium spinosad, tablets for cats and dogs, after oral administration is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract of carnivores, showing insecticidal action after 30 minutes. The maximum concentration of spinosad in blood plasma is reached in dogs in 2-4 hours and in cats in 4-12 hours. At the same time, 92-98% of fleas begin to die after 4 hours. 75% of the administered dose of spinosad is excreted within 48 hours, 90% – within 168 hours with feces and in small quantities in the urine, and in lactating females partially with colostrum and milk. The drug is very convenient for the destruction of not only active adults ectoparasites, but also those larvae that hatch from eggs during these 168 hours. The drug is not addictive in animals and does not produce flea resistance to the active substance.

Application

Prevention and treatment of cats and kittens, dogs and puppies from flea infestation (syphonapterosis): Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea), Ctenocephalides canis (dog flea), Pulex irritans (human flea), Xenopsylla cheopis (rat flea) ) and some species of mites. The drug is used in the treatment of atopic allergic dermatitis caused by fleas and to prevent its occurrence.

Dosage

The drug is administered to animals once, orally, at the suggestion of the owner, immediately before or after feeding. The tablet should be given in a mixture with food in crushed form or forcibly at the root of the tongue immediately after feeding.

If the animal vomits within 1 hour after administration, it should be re-administered at the same dose.

Protection of animals from ectoparasites lasts for 1 month. Repeated treatments of animals are carried out according to the indications, but not more often than once a month. At group maintenance of lynching of all animals it is recommended to spend at the same time.

In order to prevent re-infestation by fleas, the places where the animal is kept are treated with an insecticide in accordance with the instructions for its use.

In case of overdose of the drug in animals, there may be depression, vomiting, dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. In this case, the animal is prescribed antihistamines and symptomatic therapy.

Features of action of drug at its first application aren’t revealed.

Contraindication

Do not use in kittens and puppies weighing less than 1.3 kg and under 4 months of age.

When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. In rare cases, in some animals in the first 48 hours after application of the drug may be hypersalivation, refusal to feed, vomiting, diarrhea, ataxia. In these cases, the animal is prescribed symptomatic therapy.

Concomitant use with drugs such as tetracycline antibiotics, doxorubicin, digoxin is not recommended, as their interaction may cause increased adverse reactions.

The drug is not intended for use in productive animals.

Do not use on depleted and weakened animals.

Not recommended for use in animals with epilepsy, females during pregnancy and lactation.
