Pharmacological properties
Prazifen 10/80 is an anthelmintic drug, the action of which is due to the content of praziquantel and fenbendazole. It is effective against nematodes and cestodes in ducks and geese (Drepanidotaenia lanceolata, D. rzewalskii, Hymenolepis gracilis, Fimbriaria fasciolaris, Ligula intenstinalis, Polymorphus magnus, Ganguleterakis dispar, Tracheophilus sisowi, Amidostomum anseris, Notocotylus attenuatus, Echinostoma revolutum), chickens and turkeys (Heterakis gallinarum, Ascaridia galli, Syngamus trachea, Raillietina echinobothrida, R. tetragona, Trichostrongylus columbriformis, Echinostoma revolutum), pigeons (Echinostoma revolutum, Ascaridae avium).
Praziquantel is an isoquinolone derivative with a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action against cestodes due to the destruction of the tegument (outer shell) of the parasite and disruption of metabolic processes by reducing the amount of glucose and enhancing the action of proteolytic enzymes, which leads to impaired neuromuscular innervation, paralysis and death of the helminth.
Fenbendazole belongs to the benzimidazole group, due to disruption of biochemical processes and energy metabolism in helminth cells, it has a detrimental effect on adult forms, larvae and eggs of nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and lungs, as well as on cestodes that parasitize animals.
The combined action of praziquantel and fenbendazole expands the range of anthelmintic action of the drug, does not require an increase in the dose for mixed helminthiasis, and makes deworming more effective, including in the treatment of cestodosis in waterfowl.
Application
For the treatment and prevention of nematodes and cestodes in birds.
Dosage
It is given orally once at a dose of 0.5 g of the drug per 1 kg of bird body weight by mixing with feed. With a strong invasion, the treatment is repeated after 4-6 weeks.
