SKINGARD is an alcohol-free antibacterial and antifungal antiseptic that contains chlorhexidine digluconate and ketoconazole.
Chlorhexidine digluconate is a chemical compound that belongs to the derivatives of biguanidine and has high antimicrobial activity and low toxicity. The mechanism of bactericidal action of chlorhexidine is associated with disruption of ribosomal RNA and cessation of bacterial cell membrane synthesis. Chlorhexidine digluconate is highly effective against methicillin-sensitive staphylococci (MSSA), as well as methicillin-resistant (MRSA): Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus valivarius. Proven antiseptic activity against gram-positive cocci: Streptococcus viridans (Aerococcus viridans), Streptococcus haemolitycus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus serotypes and ribotypes, Entero. Among the grams of negative bacteria most sensitive to chlorhexidine are: Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Gardnerelia vaginalis and Acinetobacter. The fungistatic and fungicidal activity of chlorhexidine includes fungi of the species Candida, yeast and some dermatophytes (Dermatophytes, Microsporum, Trichophyton, Trichodermd).
Chlorhexidine digluconate has the property of accumulating in the outer layer of the skin, which contributes to the continuation of its antimicrobial action. Chlorhexidine is removed from the skin by 96-98% by repeated washing. The minimum amount of drug that can remain in the body does not cause toxic reactions. The drug has no carcinogenic or mutagenic effects. Not addictive microflora.
Ketoconazole is a synthetic imidazoledioxolane derivative, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent. The mechanism of action is to inhibit ergosterol biosynthesis and change the lipid composition of the fungal membrane. Active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum spp.), Yeast (Malassezia spp., Candida spp., Pityrosporum spp., Torulopsis, Cryptococcus spp.). Particularly pronounced effect on Malassezia spp. Ketoconazole is also active against gram-positive cocci (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.). The development of secondary resistance during treatment was not observed; when applied topically does not show systemic effects.
