Thymol can be supplied as white crystals or white powder and has a characteristic odor. The drug dissolves well in ether, fatty oils, alcohol, chloroform and glacial acetic acid.
Properties of the preparation: Timol has pronounced acaricidal, bactericidal, nozemacid and fungicidal properties. The disease of bees with varroatosis and acarapidosis is a direct indicator for the use of the drug. Thymol is also used for the prevention of nosematosis, ascospherosis and foulbrood diseases in bee brood.
Dosage and application of Timol: The drug is used during the period of the autumn build-up of bee colonies and in the spring after the bees’ flight.
Thymol is sprayed on the upper bars of the frames in the nest at the rate of 2.5 g per family in 10 streets, for families with moderate or low degree of damage, Timol should be sprayed 2 times after 7 days. With a strong degree of infection of the family, treatment should be carried out 3 times after 4 days. After 2-3 days after treatment, the drug is placed in the family in sachets, the temperature in the hive should not exceed 27 ° C. After treatment, it is not recommended to open the hive within 48 hours, a new inflow of air will drastically reduce the concentration of the medicinal vapors of the drug.
The use of the drug is possible in cloth bags measuring 10 x 10 cm. A bag containing 10-15 g of the drug (per family) is placed at the back wall of the hive, on top of the nest, for 12 days. After 5 days, the bag is kneaded and replenished with the drug as it evaporates. It is not recommended to open the hive within 48 hours after treatment, a new inflow of air will drastically reduce the concentration of medicinal vapors of the drug. Bees remove the drug when it comes into contact with the open brood. The effect of Timol on female ticks gives positive results, there is a decrease in fertility and general toxic poisoning. It is recommended to use Timol at a temperature not exceeding 27 ° C, otherwise the drug may not manifest itself in all its strength.
The use of the drug Timol is possible in the form of medicinal dressings with 50% concentration of sugar syrup, 100 ml per frame covered with bees. The distribution of medicinal syrup takes place in the evening, it is placed in ceiling feeders or in empty combs, which are installed in the brood part of the nest. Feeding bees with syrup containing the preparation is carried out 4 times with 3-4 day intervals. Preparation of the drug solution: 3 grams of thymol should be dissolved in 25 liters of sugar syrup. To prepare sugar syrup at the beginning, you should dissolve Timol in hot water, and then the required amount of sugar.
You can also use Thymol to prepare a medicinal bee kandy. For the preparation of medicinal candy, you should thoroughly stir 3 g of Timol with 10 kg of candi. It is worth giving such kandy to bees in the form of top dressing at the rate of 40 g of kandy per frame covered with bees. Preventive treatment is carried out with a one-time feeding of medicinal candi. When treating bees, it should be fed 3 times, with an interval of 6-7 days.

Special instructions for the use of Timol: A week before pumping out honey, the treatment of bees with the drug should be stopped. Weak bee colonies, consisting of less than three full bee lanes, should not be treated with the preparation.
Precautions: During treatment with the drug, do not allow the solution to enter the respiratory tract and eyes. The drug causes mild irritation, when in contact with the skin, getting on the mucous membrane – strong. If the drug, in large doses, enters the bloodstream, it leads to death due to heart paralysis.
Store the drug in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at room temperature. The packaging with the drug must be well closed. Shelf life: 2 years from the date of issue.
