Pharmacological properties
Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic from the group of macrolides, which has a bacteriostatic effect at low concentrations and a bactericidal effect at high concentrations. Active against gram-positive microorganisms – Clostridium perfringens, Actinomyces spp., Corynebacterium spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, gram-negative microorganisms – Pastureumla spp., Haemophilus spp., Haemophilus spp., Campylobacinoplethinopamine The mechanism of action is to block protein synthesis in bacterial cells as a result of the formation of a complex with 50S subunits of ribosomes.
After oral administration, telmicosin is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, passes from blood plasma into the lungs. As a result, there is a low level of tilmicosin in the blood serum, and in the lungs and macrophages of the lung tissue – the highest, which is fixed after 6 hours. Therapeutic concentrations of the drug in all organs and tissues of the body are maintained for 48 hours.
In chickens, tilmicosin reaches therapeutic concentrations in air sacs in less than 6 hours, in turkeys it is concentrated in the lungs and air sacs, in calves – observed in the lungs after 6 hours and maintained for 60 hours, and in the liver and kidneys are high concentrations. , in pigs, it reaches its maximum concentration in the lungs.
Excreted mainly in the bile, a small amount – in the urine.
Indication
Treatment of animals with respiratory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to tilmicosin:
- calves up to 3 months of age – Mycoplasma bovis, M. dispar, Mannheimia haemolitica, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Pasteurella multocida, P. haemolytica, etc .;
- pigs – Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, etc .;
- chickens (broilers, repair young stock, parent flock), turkeys – Mycoplasma gallisepticum, M. synoviae, Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, Pasteurella multocida, etc.
Contraindication
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to tilmicosin, horses, ruminants with functionally developed pancreas, laying hens, whose eggs are eaten by humans.
Do not use in the detection of resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria resistant to macrolides.
Do not use concomitantly with aminoglycoside antibiotics, other macrolides and ionic coccidiostats, as well as in a mixture with feeds containing bentonites.
Method of application and dosage
The drug is given orally: birds – with drinking water, pigs, calves – with milk, milk replacer or liquid feed. Solutions of the drug are prepared immediately before use. Dosage depending on the method of use (group or individual):
- pigs – 80 ml of the drug per 100 liters of drinking water (daily dose of tilmicosin – 15-20 mg per 1 kg of body weight), course – 5 days;
- chickens (broilers, repair young stock, parent flock), turkeys – 30 ml of the drug per 100 liters of drinking water (daily dose of tilmicosin: chickens – 15-20 mg per 1 kg of body weight, turkeys – 10-27 mg per 1 kg of body weight) , course – 3 days;
- calves – 1 ml of the drug per 20 kg of body weight 2 times a day (12.5 mg of tilmicosin per 1 kg of body weight), the course – 3-5 days.
Reservation
When using the drug in the recommended doses, side effects and complications are usually not observed. Sometimes there are short-term gastrointestinal disorders.
Due to the possible development of resistant strains of bacteria, the drug, like all macrolides, should be used only after testing for susceptibility of microorganisms to tilmicosin.
After the last application of the drug, slaughter of chickens for meat is allowed after 12 days, pigs – after 14 days, broiler chickens, turkeys – after 19 days, calves – after 42 days. Meat obtained before this date is disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the opinion of the veterinarian.

Baytril 10% Bayer ORAL Solution (Enrofloxacin)
Baytril, which is a derivative of quinolone carboxylic acid, is an anti-infective chemotherapeutic medicine with specially high bactericidial effect. Enrofloxacin, inhibits the bacterial gyrase enzyme which has an improtant role in DNA replication. The inhibition of this enzyme, blocks certain stages of bacterial synthesis, causing functional disorders leading to death of the bacteria. This gives Baytril a different mode of action in comparison with other antibiotics. Enrofloxacin has a broad-spectrum anti-bacterial efficacy, including Mycoplasmas, gram negative and gram positive bacteria as well as anaerobic patogenic bacteria.
