The mechanism of action is to inhibit the activity of the enzyme DNA gyrase, which affects the replication of the DNA helix in the nucleus of a bacterial cell.
When administered parenterally, it is rapidly absorbed from the injection site and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration in the blood is observed after 20-40 minutes, the therapeutic concentration is maintained for 24 hours. The concentration in the affected tissue is higher than in healthy.
Excreted mainly unchanged, partially metabolized to ciprofloxacin and excreted in urine and feces. Does not cause nephrotoxic effect.
