Description:
Viscous, transparent, colorless or yellowish liquid with a peculiar odor, unpleasant taste, insoluble in water. At low temperatures it thickens and becomes cloudy.
Compound:
The product of cold pressing of peeled seeds of the annual plant ricin (Ricinus communis L.) of the milkweed family. Castor (castor) oil contains triglyceride of ricinoleic acid.
Pharmacological action:
In the stomach, castor oil does not change and does not irritate it, but in the intestine under the action of an alkaline environment and the enzyme lipase castor oil is broken down with the release of glycerol, ricin acid and its salts, which irritate intestinal receptors and increase peristalsis. . Castor oil acts as a gentle laxative, so it is used even in cases of inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Partially softens the contents of the stomach and promotes its movement through the digestive tract. Laxative effect in small animals occurs in 4-8 hours depending on the weight of the animal, in large animals much later, and in cattle in 20 – 30 hours.
Indication:
Prescribed as a laxative for constipation, clogging and inflammation of the intestines, poisoning. Externally prescribed for the treatment of wounds, ulcers, burns, softening and restoring the epidermis, removing dandruff, enhancing hair growth.
Doses and method of application.
Inside the oil is injected once in pure form or in the form of emulsions in the following doses:
- horses – 250-500 ml;
- cattle – 250-800 ml;
- sheep – 50-200 ml;
- pigs – 20-100 ml;
- fur animals – 10-20 ml;
- cats – 10 -30 ml;
- dogs – 15-50 ml;
- birds – 5-15 ml
Externally – in the form of ointments and liniments, treatment is carried out until recovery.
Side effects:

Contraindication:
