Ringer-Locke’s solution is isotonic in the blood plasma of animals, it regulates water and salt and acid-base balance in the animal’s body.
After injection, the drug is rapidly absorbed in the injection site and distributed in the organs and tissues of
the animal. The drug does not cause an irritating effect on tissues
Ringer-Locke’s solution is administered in animals used for the treatment of dyspepsia and other diseases involving dehydration and intoxication of the organism, during blood loss, for washing wounds and eyes. It is also used for the dissolution of various drugs.
Ringer-Locke’s solution is administered subcutaneously or intravenously in the following doses:
– in horses and cattle: 1000-3000 ml;
– in small ruminants: 100-300 ml;
– in calves up to one year: 200-400 ml;
– in lambs and piglets: 25-100 ml;
– in dogs: 10-200 ml;
– in cats: 5-50 ml.
Dosage and duration of administration depend on the weight of animals and the severity of the disease. During subcutaneous injection, the drug is administered fractionally in different sites.
Ringer-Locke’s solution does not cause side effects in animals and complications in recommended doses.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: No contraindications for use of Ringer-Locke’s solution are established.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS: Use of Ringer-Locke’s solution does not exclude the use of other drugs.
Animal products shall be used for food purposes without restrictions during and after the administration of Ringer-Locke’s solution.

Pharmacological properties
Sodium chloride is involved in water-salt metabolism, maintains and regulates osmotic pressure, has detoxification, rehydration effect, replenishes sodium deficiency in various pathological conditions of the body, temporarily increases the volume of fluid circulating through the vessels.
Sodium ions penetrate the cell membrane through various transport mechanisms, in particular the sodium-potassium pump (Na-K-ATPase). Sodium contributes to the transmission of signals in neurons, electrophysiological processes of the heart, metabolic processes in the kidneys. It is excreted from the body after renal reabsorption in the urine, a small amount in the feces and sweat.
Indications
Treatment of animals with significant losses of organic fluid (dehydration) - intoxication, diarrhea, burn disease, toxic dyspepsia, decreased blood pressure, shock, after surgery.
For washing wounds, mouth, nose, mucous membranes of the eyes, as a solvent for veterinary and biological products.
Method of administration and dosage
Before use, the drug is heated to the body temperature of the animal and injected intravenously, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously in the following doses per animal:
- cattle - 500-3000 ml;
- horses - 300-2500 ml;
- sheep, goats - 100-500 ml;
- pigs - 10-150 ml;
- dogs - 20-100 ml.
