Sulfac (Cefquinoma sulfate + prednisolone) suspension for intracisternal use
8 g of the drug (1 syringe-tube) contains:
Cefquinoma sulfate – 88.92 mg (equivalent to 75 mg cefquin)
prednisolone – 10 mg
Description
The liquid is white or light yellow.
Pharmacological properties
Cefquinoma is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Acts bactericidal against gram-positive and gram-negative, aerobic, facultative-anaerobic and anaerobic microorganisms – Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp. (including S. dysagalactiae, S. agalactiae, S. uberis), as well as Proteus spp., Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum. The mechanism of action is based on the suppression of the cell wall of the microorganism.
Cefquinoma due to its zwitter structure quickly penetrates into the bacterial cell and has a high resistance to beta-lactamases. Unlike previous generations of cephalosporins, it is not hydrolyzed by chromosomally encoded cephalosporinases of the Amp-C type or plasmid-mediated cephalosporinases of a number of enterobacteria.
At intracisternal administration it is weakly soaked up in blood thanks to what high concentration in udder fabric is reached. Partially (less than 5%) binds to serum proteins and is relatively quickly excreted from the body (half-life – 2-2.5 hours) in unchanged form with milk and urine.
Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, exudative, anti-edematous, desensitizing and antitoxic properties. The mechanism of action is based on inhibiting the accumulation of macrophages, leukocytes in the inflammatory focus, reducing the permeability of capillaries, inhibiting the release of microsomal enzymes and inflammatory mediators.
When administered intracisternally, it rapidly penetrates the parenchyma of the udder and enters the blood in small quantities. The plasma half-life is 3.3 hours. The half-life is 18-36 hours. Most prednisolone (70-90%) binds in plasma to proteins (transcortin and albumin), is metabolized in the liver, excreted in milk and urine mainly as inactive metabolites (up to 80%).
Method of application and dosage
Before using the drug from the affected quarter of the udder milk and disinfect the nipple. The syringe tube is heated to + 30-35 ° C, remove the cap and insert the cannula into the milk duct of the nipple. The contents of the syringe are completely squeezed into the affected quarter of the udder, then squeeze the top of the nipple and massage. Course – 3 injections in 12 hours.
Reservation
After the last application of the drug, slaughter of animals for meat is allowed in 4 days, milk can be eaten by humans in 5 days (after 10 milkings). Meat and milk obtained before this date are disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinarian.
Indication
Treatment of dairy cows in clinical and subclinical mastitis caused by microorganisms sensitive to cefquinome.
Contraindication
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins and other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Do not use simultaneously with other antibacterial drugs.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place, out of reach of children at a temperature of +4 to +25 ° C.
