Meloxicam Oral Suspension for Dogs and Cats
1 ml of the drug contains the active substance: meloxicam – 1 mg.
Excipients: glycerin, polyvinylpyrrolidone (colidon K-25), sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, xanthan gum, citric acid, sodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium benzoate, purified water.
Application
Meloxyvet suspension is prescribed to dogs and cats as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic drug for inflammatory and pain syndromes of various origins, including acute and chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system (arthritis, osteoarthritis, synovitis, dislocations), inflammatory soft tissue diseases, and quality analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug in the postoperative period.
Dosage
Meloxyvet suspension is used when feeding individually orally once a day.
Dogs on the first day of treatment the drug is used in a dose of 0.2 ml (4 drops) of the drug per 1 kg of body weight of the animal (corresponding to 0.2 mg of meloxicam), in the following days – 0.1 ml (2 drops) of the drug per 1 kg body weight of the animal (corresponding to 0.1 mg of meloxicam).
Cats use the drug on the first day of treatment at a dose of 0.1 ml (2 drops) of the drug per 1 kg of body weight of the animal (corresponding to 0.1 mg of meloxicam), in the following days – 0.05 ml (1 drop) of the drug per 1 kg body weight of the animal (corresponding to 0.05 mg of meloxicam). Each consumer package of 50 ml is equipped with syringes-dispensers, which allows you to accurately dose the drug to dogs of large and medium breeds (from 5 kg). Each consumer package of 10 ml is equipped with droppers for dosing small dogs and cats (up to 5 kg).
Before use, the contents of the vial with the drug must be heated to 30 ° C and shaken.
The duration of treatment depends on the indications and condition of the animal and is determined by the attending veterinarian, but should not exceed 10 days. In the absence of improvement in the clinical condition of the animals after a 10-day course of treatment, the drug is discontinued.
Omissions should be avoided when administering the next dose of the drug, as this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy. If one dose is missed, it should be given as soon as possible. Then the interval until the next administration of the drug does not change.

Contraindication
Contraindications to the use of the drug are individual hypersensitivity of the animal to meloxicam or to drugs with similar effects, such as other NSAIDs, including acetylsalicylic acid; gastric and duodenal ulcers, severe renal and hepatic failure, hemorrhagic syndrome. Do not use simultaneously with corticosteroids, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as anticoagulants.
Meloxyvet suspension should not be used in pregnant and lactating females, puppies and kittens under 6 weeks of age, animals in a state of dehydration, hypovolemia and hypotension, due to the possibility of toxic effects of the drug on the kidneys. If it is absolutely necessary to prescribe the drug to such animals, treatment is carried out under the constant supervision of a veterinarian, while the daily dose of the drug is reduced by 2 times. The drug is contraindicated in animals with diseases of the cardiovascular system, clinical renal failure, at risk of gastrointestinal ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as diseases of the hematopoietic organs and hypersensitivity to the drug.
Side effects
There may be leukopenia, allergic reactions, drowsiness, tachycardia, hypertension, abdominal pain, liver and kidney dysfunction, itching and skin rash, edema.
Warning
As the risk associated with meloxicam may be increased depending on the dosage and duration of administration, the shortest possible period of administration and the minimum effective daily dose should be prescribed. If you develop signs of side effects, the drug should be discontinued. Prolonged use of Meloxyvet suspension should be carried out only under the supervision of a veterinarian. It is not recommended to use Meloxyvet suspension at the same time, as well as for 24 hours before or 24 hours after the end of the use of other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids and potentially nephrotoxic drugs. The drug significantly binds to plasma proteins, entering into a competitive relationship with other protein-binding drugs can lead to toxic effects.
Overdose
Do not exceed these doses. In case of overdose, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, depression, bleeding and ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract may occur. In case of overdose, consult a veterinarian immediately. In case of overdose, treatment is symptomatic.
