Pharmacological properties
ATC vet code: QМ02АА99 Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory veterinary drugs for topical use, in combinations.
“Equidol” gel for joints – a combined drug that has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, inhibits the degeneration of cartilage, slows the progression of osteoarthritis, normalizes metabolism in hyaline tissue, stimulates the regeneration of articular cartilage.
Glucosamine hydrochloride is an amino monosaccharide used by chondrocytes in the body as a starting material for the synthesis of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans and hyaluronic acid.
Chondroitin sulfate in the body is formed from glucosamine, its molecule is 100-200 times larger than its predecessor. Polyanionic molecules of chondroitin sulfate are an integral part of the aggrecan structure and determine the cellular physicochemical properties of cartilage. In addition, chondroitin sulfate is the basis for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid, which provides lubrication to the joints, which is necessary for their functioning. Chondroitin sulfate inhibits the action of proteolytic enzymes, reduces the activity of chondroitinase in synovial fluid, has a pronounced tropism to the articular cartilage, participates in the process of bone mineralization, regulates calcium balance and promotes ossification processes. Has an antithrombotic effect, which explains its anti-inflammatory effect,
Meloxicam has pronounced anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects. The mechanism is to block the receptors responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandin E. Meloxicam belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the class of oxicams, is a selective inhibitor of COX-2, which is involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins in the inflammatory focus. The mechanism of action is associated with a decrease in prostaglandin biosynthesis due to inhibition of the enzymatic activity of COX-2, no effect on COX-1, which reduces the risk of side effects.
Meloxicam is metabolized by liver enzymes and excreted as metabolites in urine and feces. The average T½ is about 20 hours.
Application
The gel is used externally in horses in a set of therapeutic measures for degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the joints and spine – primary arthrosis, osteoarthritis with a predominant lesion of the large joints, intervertebral osteochondrosis, osteoporosis, periodontitis.
The gel can not be washed off. Compatible with other drugs.
Dosage
The gel is applied to the pre-cleansed skin surface and rubbed in with light massaging movements 2-3 times a day until complete recovery. After applying the tool it is necessary to rest the animal for 20-30 minutes. Usually the course of treatment is from 2-3 weeks to 2 months.
If necessary, the treatment is repeated.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the gel.
Reservation
Avoid contact of the gel with damaged skin and mucous membranes.
In case of forced slaughter of the animal, the treated areas must be removed.
