Description
Ointment white or white with a slightly yellowish tinge, uniform consistency.
1 g of ointment contains active ingredients:
chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol) – 7.5 mg, methyluracil – 40 mg.
Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 1500.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QD03AX – veterinary drugs that promote healing (scarring) of wounds.
Combined drug for topical use with antimicrobial, reparative and anti-inflammatory effects.
Chloramphenicol, which is part of the drug, has an antimicrobial effect, the mechanism of which is associated with impaired protein synthesis of microorganisms. Acts bacteriostatically, active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli).
Methyluracil accelerates cell regeneration, promotes wound scarring and has anti-inflammatory effects. Polyethylene oxide base adsorbs wound exudate, potentiates the activity of drugs. In the presence of pus or necrotic masses, the antibacterial effect of the drug is preserved.
The drug easily penetrates into tissues without damaging biological membranes, but the degree of systemic absorption after application of the drug to the skin, wounds and mucous membranes is unknown. Vetmecol belongs to practically non-toxic drugs (toxicity class IV).
Application
Treatment of dogs, cats and horses with infected soft tissue wounds caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active substances of the drug.
Dosage
Vetmecol is applied topically in the first phase of the wound process. The drug is applied in a thin layer on the damaged surface (if necessary, pre-perform primary surgical treatment of the wound) 1-2 times a day. In case of introduction of ointment into purulent cavities it is impregnated with sterile gauze napkins, which fill the wound. It is possible to introduce the ointment into the purulent cavities through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe. In such cases, Vetmekol is preheated to 35-36 ° C. Bandaging is performed daily until complete cleansing of wounds from purulent-necrotic masses and the beginning of their granulation.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease. The recommended course of treatment is 14 days.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Do not use the drug for fungal skin lesions. Do not apply to productive animals.
