Vaseline oil (liquid paraffin) is a synthetic preparation, an oily colorless neutral liquid without taste and smell, the purified fraction of oil obtained during its processing after distillation of kerosene.
Pharmacological properties:
Vaseline oil is used as a basis for various ointments, liniments and suspensions of drugs. Vaseline oil also has a mechanical laxative effect due to the softening of fecal masses and lubrication of the intestinal wall, has a weak stimulating effect on the intestine.
Application:
Internally – when the esophagus is blocked, as a laxative and emollient for constipation, coprostasis. Externally – to soften the skin, lubricate the catheters.
Dosage:
Internally in doses:
horses and cattle – 0.5-1 liters;
goats, sheep and pigs 100-200 ml, dogs 60-100 ml
Contraindication:
Intestinal obstruction, inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity, hypersensitivity to the drug. During pregnancy and lactation, the use of Vaseline oil is contraindicated due to the possible reflex stimulating effect of the drug on the uterus.
