Pharmacological properties:
Simparica belongs to the group of insectoacaricidal preparations of systemic action.
Sarolaner, which is part of the drug, is a compound of the isoxazoline group, which is active against fleas, ixodid, sarcoptoid, psoroptoid and demodectic ticks parasitizing dogs. Sarolaner acts at the neuromuscular synapses of arthropods and inhibits the function of the neurotransmitter receptor, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate receptor, causing uncontrolled neuromuscular activity leading to the death of insects and ticks.
Sarolaner is active against adult fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, C. felis), some species of ticks (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes hexagonus, I. ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Sarcoptes scabiei). Laboratory studies have shown the activity of sarolaner against tick species such as Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes scapularis, Amblyomma americanum, A. maculatum, as well as the Demodex canis and Otodectes cynotis ticks.
After application of the drug, sarolaner is active against fleas after 8 hours, and against ticks (Ixodes ricinus), the effect of the drug begins after 12 hours and lasts for 28 days after application. The drug acts on all types of fleas that parasitize dogs, causes their death before the eggs are laid, and prevents flea eggs from contaminating the habitats of animals affected by fleas.
