Ketart 10% (ketoprofen) Solution, 100 ml
Description
Transparent liquid from colorless to light yellow color.
Storage
100 ml of the drug contain the active substance:
Ketoprofen 10 g.
Excipients: benzyl alcohol, arginine, citric acid, water for injections.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet classification code QM01 – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic veterinary drugs. QM01AE03 – Ketoprofen.
KETART is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect. Not all aspects of the mechanism of its action are known. The effects of the drug are partially achieved by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandin and leukotriene, by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, respectively. Ketoprofen also inhibits bradykinin synthesis and platelet aggregation.
After intravenous administration of ketoprofen to horses, the elimination half-life is approximately 1 hour. Volume of distribution – 0.17 l/kg, clearance – 0.3 l/kg.
After intramuscular administration to cattle and pigs, ketoprofen is rapidly absorbed, the maximum concentration in blood plasma is approximately 11 μg/ml and is reached within 0.5-1 hour. The average absorption time is approximately 1 hour. The elimination half-life is 2-2.5 hours. Bioavailability is 90-100%. With repeated injections at 24-hour intervals, ketoprofen shows linear and stationary kinetics, since the above parameters do not change. The degree of protein binding is approximately 95%.
Ketoprofen is metabolized mainly by reduction of the ketone group with the formation of the main metabolite. Ketoprofen is quickly eliminated, approximately 80% of the applied dose is eliminated 12 hours after administration. 90% is excreted by the kidneys, mainly in a metabolized form.
Application
Cattle : anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and antipyretic agent for the treatment of animals with inflammatory processes caused by diseases of the respiratory organs, swelling of the mammary glands, acute mastitis, inflammatory processes in the musculoskeletal system.
Pigs: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic therapy for MMA syndrome, inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory infection.
Horses: treatment of animals with inflammatory and painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system, in particular, lameness of traumatic origin, arthritis, arthrosis, joint injuries (sprained ligaments, synovitis), fractures, tendinitis, damage to the hooves (pododermatitis, lameness), post-surgical inflammation. Symptomatic treatment of colic.
Dosage
Cattle
Intramuscularly or intravenously – 3 ml of the drug per 100 kg of body weight per day (equivalent to 3 mg of ketoprofen per 1 kg of body weight per day) for 1-3 days.
Pigs
Intramuscularly – 3 ml of the drug per 100 kg of body weight per day (equivalent to 3 mg of ketoprofen per 1 kg of body weight per day) for 1-3 days.
Horses
Intravenously – 1 ml of the drug per 45 kg of body weight per day (equivalent to 2.2 mg of ketoprofen per 1 kg of body weight per day) for 3-5 days.
With colic, one injection is enough (according to the above dosages). if re-introduction is necessary, the animal’s clinical condition should be reassessed.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the auxiliary substances of the drug.
Do not use in animals with lesions of the digestive tract, hemorrhagic diathesis, blood dysplasia, liver, heart or kidney function disorders.
Do not use foals in the first month of life.
Do not use other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at the same time and within 24 hours after the last use of Ketoprofen.
Reservation
The use of ketoprofen in animals less than 6 weeks of age or in older animals may carry an additional risk. If the use of the drug in these age groups cannot be avoided, the dose should be reduced and the animals should be under careful clinical care.
Do not use intra-arterially!
Do not exceed the indicated dose or duration of treatment.
Use with caution in animals with dehydration, hypovolemia, and hypotension, as there is a potential risk of increased renal toxicity. If it is necessary to re-introduce ketoprofen in case of colic, the animal’s clinical condition should be reassessed.
It is necessary to provide the animal with free access to drinking water during the entire period of treatment.
When working with the drug, it is necessary to follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety techniques provided for when working with veterinary drugs.
People with increased sensitivity to ketoprofen or benzyl alcohol should avoid contact with the drug.
Interaction with other means and other forms of interaction
Do not mix with other drugs in the same syringe!
Do not use ketoprofen simultaneously and within 24 hours after the last use of other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids.
Avoid simultaneous administration of diuretics, nephrotoxic drugs and anticoagulants.
Ketoprofen is highly bound to plasma proteins and can be replaced by other drugs with a high degree of protein binding, such as anticoagulants. Due to the fact that ketoprofen can inhibit platelet aggregation and cause gastric ulcers, it should not be used with other drugs that have the same profile of adverse reactions.
Withdrawal period (grace period)
Consumption of cow’s milk for human food is possible without restrictions.
Do not use in lactating mares whose milk is used for human consumption.
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 4 days after the last use of the drug.
The meat received by the specified deadline is disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the opinion of the veterinary medicine doctor.
Storage
In the original package at a temperature from 5 to 25 C.
Shelf life – 2 years.
