Description
Trade name of the medicinal product: Frontline Spray.
In appearance, the drug is a colorless transparent liquid. Solution for external use.
Structure
Frontline Spray in 100 ml contains as active ingredient: fipronil – 0.25 g.
Excipients: copovidone – 2 g, isopropanol – 80 ml and purified water – up to 100 ml.
Pharmacological properties
Frontline Spray belongs to the insectoacaricidal preparations of the phenylpyrozole group.
It is active against lice, fleas, lice and ixodid ticks parasitizing dogs and cats.
The mechanism of action of fipronil, which is part of the drug, is to block the GABA-dependent receptors of arthropods, impair the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of ectoparasites.
After applying the drug to the skin and hair, fipronil is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation, accumulates in the wool, epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the animal’s body and, providing a long-term contact insectoacaricidal and repellent effect, protects the animal from ectoparasites.
The protective effect of the drug after treatment of dogs against ixodid ticks lasts up to 3-5 weeks, against fleas – 1-3 months, after treatment of cats against fleas – up to 40 days.
According to the parameters of acute toxicity after oral administration and dermal application, Front Line Spray belongs to low toxic drugs, in recommended doses it does not have skin irritating and resorptive toxic effects, and when it gets into the eyes it causes slight irritation. The drug is toxic to rabbits, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.
Application procedure
Front Line Spray is prescribed for dogs and cats when infested by fleas and ticks, as well as to prevent the attack of ectoparasites on animals.
The processing of animals is carried out in the open air or in a well-ventilated room with open windows (vents), after removing the cages with decorative birds from the room and covering the aquariums with fish. To prevent licking of the drug, the animal is put on a muzzle, a neck collar, or the jaws are fixed with a loop of braid, which are removed after the coat is completely dry.
Before use, the bottle with the drug is thoroughly shaken and, holding it vertically, press the spray head, directing the aerosol torch onto the treated surface from a distance of 10-20 cm. The dose of the drug, depending on the length of the coat, is 3-6 ml per 1 kg of animal weight.
The drug is easily dosed:
- one press on the spray head of a 100 ml bottle provides a dose of 0.5 ml;
- one press on the spray head of a 250 ml bottle provides a dose of 1.5 ml.
The spray is applied to the entire body of the animal against hair growth, slightly moistening the coat (in animals of long-haired breeds, the coat is lifted by hand). Covering the eyes of the animal, treat the auricles and chest, with fingertips (with a glove), the drug is lightly rubbed around the eyes and nose.
In order to prevent re-infestation of animals with fleas, the bedding is replaced or treated with an insecticidal agent in accordance with the instructions for its use.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the ingredients of the drug (including a history).
Application features
It is prohibited to use Front Line Spray for patients with infectious diseases, convalescent and weakened animals, as well as puppies and kittens under 2 days of age.
