Description

Exekon is a hormonal drug used in the treatment of non-infectious skin conditions in cats and dogs. The drug was developed by the French pharmaceutical company Ceva Sante Animale, which is also the manufacturer.
The assortment of the company includes medicines of the following directions:
biological products (homeopathy);
vaccines against various diseases;
antibiotics;
medicines for the treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases;
means for the treatment and prevention of parasitic diseases, etc.
The release form of the drug
Execan is produced in the form of a small briquette (like a sugar cube), intended for feeding in dry or dissolved form. This drug is sold in plastic blisters. Cubes are packaged in 8 pieces (like a plate of tablets), 2 blisters are packed in a cardboard box. The kit includes 1 instruction for use.
Composition of Execan
The preparation (1 briquette) consists of the following components:

dexamethasone – 1 mg;
nicotinamide (vitamin PP) – 10 mg;
pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) – 50 mg;
methionine – 300 mg;
filler – sucrose up to 8 g.
How to store the preparation
Execan should be stored under the following conditions:

in the manufacturer’s packaging;
out of the reach of children;
separate from food and feed;
in a dry place protected from direct sunlight;
at temperatures from 10 ° C to 25 ° C;
within 3 years from the date of production.
When Exekan is indicated
The drug is prescribed for cats with non-infectious diseases of the skin:

acute and chronic dermatitis of allergic origin;
flea and tick-borne dermatitis;
food allergies, eczema, etc.
Dosage and administration
It is convenient to give sugar cubes to a pet: dogs take them for a treat and lick them off their hands on their own. In addition, they can be added to feed or dissolved in water. Hormonal drugs require careful adherence to dosage. The instruction dictates the following treatment regimen:
Stage 1 (from the 1st to the 4th days of treatment). The dose depends on the weight of the pet.
Stage 2 (from the 5th to the 12th days of treatment). The recommended dose is halved.
Based on the pet’s body weight, the following doses are established:
animals weighing no more than 5 kg – ½ cube per day;
dogs from 5 to 15 kg – 1 cube / day;
medium dogs (15-30 kg) – 1.5 cubes per day;
large individuals weighing more than 30 kg – 2 cubes / day.
Important! Only a veterinarian can prescribe Execan and stop taking the drug.
The drug is canceled, gradually reducing the dose: on the 13th and 14th days of treatment, the dog should be given ¼ cube of the hormonal drug. Abrupt withdrawal can cause urinary problems (polyuria) or increased thirst (polydipsia).
It is impossible to violate the established dose, and it is undesirable to skip taking the medication: this reduces the therapeutic effect. If it was not possible to give the medicine on time, the treatment will have to start over.
Limitations and Potential Consequences
When the treatment regimen and prescribed doses are followed, side effects are rare. In case of overdose, unauthorized use of the drug in the presence of contraindications, the following are possible:
increased blood pressure;
severe vomiting;
increased appetite;
increased thirst;
convulsions;
frequent urination;
muscle dystrophy;
the appearance of erosions on the mucous membranes of the stomach, intestines.
Important! When taking Execan for a long time, the animal may develop hepatitis, diabetes, or Cushing’s syndrome.
The medicine cannot be used for self-medication, since it has contraindications for use. These include:
diabetes mellitus;
reduced immunity;
viral, fungal or bacterial diseases;
overdose of vitamin B.
The drug is not prescribed for pregnant women, lactating females, animals with individual intolerance to the components, it cannot be combined with aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Important! The cubes taste sweet, so you should keep them out of the reach of your pet.
If you have symptoms of an overdose or other negative deviations in the pet’s health, you should immediately contact a veterinary clinic.
