Ornidazole 50 Solution for injection for Dogs, 100 ml
Composition
100 ml of the drug contains the active substance: ornidazole – 5 g
Pharmacological action
Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent. Active against Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica; obligate anaerobic microorganisms: Bacteroides spp. (Including Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides distasonis, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides vulgatus), Fusobacterium spp., Veillonela spp., Prevotella spp. (Prevotella bivia, Prevotella buccae, Prevotella disiens) of gram-positive microorganisms: Eubacterium spp., Clostridium spp. Aerobic microorganisms are not sensitive to the drug.
By mechanism of action – DNA-tropic drug with selective activity against microorganisms that have enzyme systems capable of reducing the nitro group and catalyze the interaction of proteins of the ferridoxin group with nitro compounds. After penetration of the drug into the microbial cell, the mechanism of its action is due to the reduction of the nitro group under the influence of nitroreductases of the microorganism and the activity of already reduced nitroimidazole. The reduction products form complexes with the DNA of the microbial cell, causing its degradation, disrupt the processes of replication and transcription of DNA. In addition, the metabolic products of the drug have cytotoxic properties and disrupt cellular respiration.
Application
Treatment of dogs with amoebiasis, dysentery, trichomoniasis, trichomonas urovaginitis, giardiasis, balantidiosis, skin infections, sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia, endocarditis, peritonitis, liver abscess, endometritis, lung cancer and bone diseases sensitive to ornidazole. To prevent the development of anaerobic infections after surgery, including after surgery on the abdominal organs, near the rectal area of gynecological surgery.
Dosage
Subcutaneously or intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight of the animal (5 mg of ornidazole per 1 kg) once a day for 3-5 days.
