- sulfadoxine – 200 mg;
- trimethoprim – 40 mg.
Excipients: lidocaine, water for injections.
Pharmacological properties
PBX vet code QJ01EW13 – antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. Sulfadoxin and trimethoprim.
Sulfadotrim is a combination drug that contains sulfadoxine and trimethoprim.
The mechanism of action of the drug is to inhibit the activity of certain enzyme systems involved in bacterial folic acid biosynthesis. The complex action of the tool significantly increases its effectiveness and reduces the possibility of developing resistant forms of strains of microorganisms.
Sulfadoxin is a broad-spectrum, long-acting sulfanilamide (T1 / 2 – 80 hours). It acts bacteriostatically against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacterium spp., Klebsiella spp., Klebsiella spp. ., Toxoplasma spp. And Rickettsia spp.). The mechanism of action is associated with para-aminobenzoic acid and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Trimethoprim acts bacteriostatically on gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp. And others) and gram-negative microorganisms (E. coli, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp., Borus spp., Proteus sppla. etc.). It inhibits bacterial reductase, which converts dihydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid, which is required for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
The maximum concentration of sulfadoxin in the blood is observed in 1-2 hours after administration, the therapeutic level is maintained for 10-12 hours.
Trimethoprim is metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly by the kidneys by glomerular filtration and active tubular secretion. The concentration in urine is much higher than in blood. The half-life is 8 – 10 hours.
Application
Treatment of calves up to 2-4 months, lambs up to 2-4 months, foals up to 3-8 months, pigs and dogs for diseases of the respiratory, digestive tract and genitourinary system caused by microorganisms sensitive to sulfadoxin and trimethoprim.
Dosage
Intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml of the drug per 10-15 kg of body weight for 3-5 days.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim and sulfonamides.
Do not prescribe to animals with impaired renal and hepatic function, as well as significant changes in hematological parameters. The drug is not used in bitches and sows during lactation. Do not use in ruminants with functionally developed pancreas.
Reservation
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 10 days after the last application of the drug. The meat obtained before this deadline is disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the opinion of the veterinarian.
Allergic reactions such as anemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia may occur very rarely.
