Pharmacological properties
АТСvet QD01A – antifungal veterinary drugs for topical use.
Otoderm is an effective antifungal and antibacterial drug with anti-inflammatory and reparative properties. The antifungal component of the drug clotrimazole (an imidazole derivative), acting on the cell membrane of fungi, disrupts its permeability to amino acids, glucose, phosphates, K + and Na + ions, etc., which leads to the lysis of the microorganism. Clotrimazole is effective against dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum), yeast-like (Candida albicans, Candida pseudotropicalis, Candida neoformans) and molds (genus Aspergillus). Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, part of the drug, potentiates the action of the drug against gram-positive staphylococci (including those resistant to penicillin and cephalosporins) and streptococci. It affects some gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides spp., Malassezia pitiriformis, Malassezia pachydermatis, Malassezia furtur, Corinebacterium minutissimum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Extracts of calendula and yarrow accelerate the processes of regeneration and epithelialization of damaged tissue. The hydrophilic base, which has a high hyperosmolar activity, promotes the absorption of inflammatory exudate, thereby reducing the concentration of bacteria in the focus of inflammation, the toxins they release, and decay products of necrotic tissues. Otoderm belongs to practically non-toxic drugs (class V toxicity).
Application
Treatment of dogs and cats with acute and chronic external otitis media, dermatitis caused by fungi and microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole and gentamicin.
Dosage
Externally, locally. The drug is applied in a thin layer to the affected skin areas cleaned of wool and dirt 1-2 times a day. The course of treatment depends on the nature, severity of the disease and the area of the affected surface and averages from 1 to 2 weeks.
In the treatment of acute exudative otitis media, Otoderm ointment is injected using a flexible cannula into the ear canal, depending on the size of the animal (from 0.5 to 2 ml) 1-2 times a day. When treating non-exudative, fungal otitis media, Otoderm ointment is injected deep into the ear canal using a lubricated tampon or applied with an ear stick 1-2 times a day.
The course of treatment lasts on average 10-14 days. The duration of the treatment is determined individually by the veterinary medicine specialist.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to drug components. Do not use simultaneously with drugs that have an ototoxic effect.
Warning
During treatment, you should not use other drugs for external use. The drug is applied only to the damaged area.
