acepromazine maleate – 15.0

Appointment
Acepromazine maleate is a neuroleptic of the phenothiazine group. The action is aimed at blocking dopaminergic receptors at different levels in the central nervous system. The dopamine neurotransmitter of the central nervous system regulates behavior, locomotor activity, sectoral function and vomiting. Acepromazine acts on the anterior and mesolimbal dopaminergic structures (blocking dopaminergic receptors, which are responsible for the psychotropic properties of the brain, that is, for the behavior of the animal).
In addition, the drug acts hypothermically, hypotensive, antihistamine, adrenolytic and antiemetic. Metabolism of acepromazine occurs in the liver, and the excretion of the drug is carried out by the kidneys. Sedation lasts up to 12 hours.
The drug is used in animals for premedication before surgery to relieve pain in cattle, horses, pigs, dogs and cats; as a sedative for aggressive animals before inspection and transportation.
