Acepromazine Maleate Injection is used for sedation, tranquilization, and as a pre-anesthetic agent in horses, dogs and cats.

The liquid is light yellow, transparent.

Pharmacological properties

Acepromazine maleate is a neuroleptic from the group of phenothiazines, sedatives. Its use as a solution for injection of 1% provides a calming and muscle relaxant effect by reducing the excitation of the central nervous system. At the same time the drug has hypothermic, antihypertensive, antihistamine, adrenolytic, antispasmodic, antiemetic effect, enhances hypnotics and local anesthetics. At intravenous administration of action of drug is shown in 5-8 minutes, and at intramuscular – in 15-25 minutes. The calming effect lasts up to an hour. At parenteral administration quickly gets into all fabrics, is metabolized in a liver, is removed through kidneys.

Method of application and dosage

The drug is used once, administered slowly intravenously (iv) or deep intramuscularly (iv), stallions and cats only intramuscularly.

Reservation

Intravenous administration is slow!

Increasing the dose of the drug does not prolong its action. Avoid contact of the drug with the skin.

The drug does not give an analgesic effect, so you should use an analgesic for analgesia.

Stallions use the drug only intramuscularly, adhering to the minimum dose.

Dogs of large breeds, greyhounds, boxers and other brachycephalic breeds are sensitive to the drug.

Some animals may develop bradycardia, narrowing of the airways, a slight decrease in body temperature, with rapid intravenous administration of cardiac arrhythmia.

After the last application of the drug, slaughter of animals for meat is allowed in 5 days, people can eat milk in 1 day. Meat and milk obtained earlier than this period are disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinarian.

Indication

The drug is used in horses, dogs, cats for premedication before surgery 15-20 minutes before the introduction of the main anesthetic, to relieve pain, calm aggressive animals before examination and transportation, as an antispasmodic (for horses).

Contraindication

Do not use in animals with impaired liver, heart, lung, diabetes and females during pregnancy. Do not use for hypothermia, hypotension, bleeding with significant blood loss and strychnine intoxication.

Do not use together with organophosphates (insecticides), local anesthetics.

Storage conditions

In a dry, dark place at a temperature of +4 to +25 ° C.

After opening the vial, store the drug in the refrigerator and use for 30 days.
