Pharmacological properties

III generation antibiotic from the group of cephalosporins with a broad spectrum of bactericidal action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including species producing beta-lactamase, individual anaerobes Escherichia coli, Pasteurella haemolytica, P. multocida, Haemophilus somnus, Actinobacillus choleuropilus plecus, Salmonis superalus, Haptoes , S. zooepidemicus, Pasteurella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Actynomyces pyogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, Streptococcus agalactiae, S. dysgalactiae, S. bovis, Klebsiella spp., Citrobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Bacillus spp., Bacillus spp., Bacillus spp. necrophorum, Porphiromonas assacharolytica (Bacteroides melaninogenicus).

The mechanism of bactericidal action is to inhibit the functional activity of bacterial enzymes transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase involved in the synthesis of peptidoglycan, which leads to disruption of the osmotic balance and destruction of the bacterial cell.

After parenteral administration, ceftiofur is metabolized to form desfuroylceftiofur, which has an activity equivalent to that of ceftiofur against bacteria. This metabolite binds reversibly to plasma proteins and accumulates in the inflammation focus. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached within 1-2 hours after administration.

Ceftiofur and desfuroylceftiofur are excreted from the body mainly with urine, partly with bile.

Indications

Treatment of animals for diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to ceftiofur:

• cattle, sheep, goats – acute postpartum endometritis, mastitis, necrobacteriosis, respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, P. Multocida, Haemophilus somnus, Streptococcus agalactiae, S. dysgalactiae, S. bovo colis, Escherobacteri, Fusorides melaninogenicus;

• pigs – respiratory diseases caused by Haemophilus somnus, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Salmonella choleraesuis, Streptococcus suis.

Contraindications

Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to ceftiofur and other beta-lactam antibiotics.

Do not use if microorganisms are resistant to cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics.

APPLICATION

Method of administration and dosage

Before use, the suspension is shaken thoroughly and injected:

• cattle, sheep, goats – subcutaneously or intramuscularly 1 time per day at a dose of 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight (1 mg of ceftiofur hydrochloride per 1 kg of body weight), the course of treatment for respiratory diseases is 3-5 days, with necrobacteriosis – at least 3 days, with acute endometritis – 5 days;

• pigs – intramuscularly 1 time per day at a dose of 1 ml per 16 kg of body weight (3 mg of ceftiofur hydrochloride per 1 kg of body weight), course – 3-4 days.

Caveats

Do not mix with other drugs in the same syringe.

After the last use of the drug, the slaughter of cattle for meat is allowed after 8 days, pigs – after 5 days. Meat obtained earlier than the specified period is disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinarian. There is no withdrawal period for milk.
