Kombiiodine solution (povidone-iodine, sodium selenite), 1000 ml
Compound
1 ml of the drug contains:
povidone-iodine – 200 mg
sodium selenite – 1.2 mg
Description
Red-brown solution with a slight odor of iodine.
Pharmacological properties
Povidone-iodine (polyvinylpyrrolidone iodide) is a complex of iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), which has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and also has a virucidal, fungicidal, sporicidal, antiprotozoal effect.
Upon contact with mucous membranes and affected tissues, active iodine is released from the iodine-polymer complex. It reacts with oxidizing sulfide (SH–) and hydroxyl (OH–) groups of amino acids that are part of the enzymes and structural proteins of microorganisms, and inactivates or destroys them.
When complexed from PVP, iodine loses its irritating effect, which is inherent in alcoholic solutions of iodine. Due to the large size of the complex molecule, povidone-iodine practically does not penetrate biological barriers, and the systemic effect of iodine is almost not manifested. In combination with excipients, povidone-iodine gives an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect.
Resistance to povidone-iodine in microorganisms does not occur.
Prolonged use of the drug can lead to partial absorption of iodine in the small intestine. Within 2 hours after absorption, it is distributed in the intercellular space, accumulates in the thyroid gland, kidneys, stomach, mammary and salivary glands. Concentration in blood plasma can reach 10 ng/ml. At the same time, the concentration of iodine in milk, saliva and gastric juice is 30 times higher than its content in blood plasma. Iodine is excreted mainly in the urine, to a lesser extent in the lungs, and also in the feces.
Iodine is one of the components of thyroxine and triiodothyronine, thyroid hormones that regulate almost all major types of metabolism. Thyroxine is responsible for energy metabolism and thermogenesis in the body, it is a catalyst for energy production in cells.
Selenium plays a significant role in the formation of more than 30 hormones, enzymes and other biologically active substances necessary for the body, stimulates erythrocytopoiesis, and improves oxygen supply to cells.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of broiler chickens, chickens, turkeys with diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, myxomycetes, iodine-sensitive protozoa, and metabolic disorders.
Contraindications
Do not use in birds with hypersensitivity to iodine and other components of the drug, thyroid dysfunction (hyperthyroidism and other pathologies), renal failure.
Dosage and administration
The drug is diluted in drinking water immediately before use and given orally at a dose of 0.02 ml (equivalent to 4 mg of povidone-iodine and 24 μg of sodium selenite) per 1 kg of body weight or 200 ml of the drug per 1000 liters of drinking water. The course of treatment is 5-7 days, in difficult cases – up to 10 days or 5 days and after a week another 5 days.
Doses of the drug are calculated for drinking water, the pH of which is not lower than 6-7. When using more hard water, the dose of the drug is increased by 5-10%.
During treatment, the bird should only drink water with the drug.
When using the drug through the water drinking system, sanitation and partial neutralization of bacterial biofilms of the water supply system occur.
A solution of the drug 0.2% can be used to sanitize the plumbing system, the exposure time is 2 hours.
