Sedin (Xylazine, Xylamed, Anased analog) Solution for injection, 50 ml
Xylazine – used in cattle, spears, dogs, cats to reduce pain during surgery, diagnostic tests, and calming aggressive animals.
Structure:
- Xylazine – 20 mg
- -1 ml of water is in front to the iniectione
Features of the
Xylazine is a thiazine derivative, belongs to the group of alpha2 -adrenergic receptor agonists. Has a sedative, analgesic, and skeletal muscle relaxant effect. The calming and analgesic effect of xylazine is due to the stimulation of alpha2 -adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system. The skeletal muscle relaxation effect is a consequence of blocking the interneuronal passage of excitation in the circuit. The effect of muscle relaxation with varying intensity is maintained throughout the duration of the soothing effect.
Indications
Xylazine is used to calm animals, relieve pain, muscle relaxation, and also as a premedication. The use of xylazine facilitates the examination of overexcited animals, the use of drugs, and makes it possible to carry out short-term surgical operations.
Contraindications
- diseases of the circulation and respiratory systems
- detected pregnancy (risk of miscarriage), excluding childbirth
- diabetes mellitus (xylazine lowers insulin levels)
- intestinal obstruction in dogs and cats
Side effects
Shortness of breath with accompanying acidosis. Bradycardia, hypotension, ataxia in large animals, profuse sweating in horses, frequent urination. In ruminants, weakening of peristalsis and tympanum (bloating) may appear, and in dogs and cats – vomiting, sometimes diarrhea. With intramuscular or subcutaneous injection, local edema may appear, usually disappearing after 48 hours.
Interaction with other drugs
Drugs with a central neurodepressant effect (anesthetics, analgesics) enhance the effect of xylazine. Xylazine should not be combined with thiobarbiturates and halothane, as this can lead to cardiac arrhythmias.
Dosage and administration
When applying, one should take into account the individual characteristics of the animal’s organism.
Livestock – intramuscularly: 0.25-1.5 ml / 100 kg body weight (i.e. 50-300 mg xylazine / kg body weight). Intravenous: 0.8 – 0.5 ml / 100 kg bw (i.e. 16-100 mg xylazine / kg bw)
Horses – intramuscularly: 7.5-15 ml / 100 kg bw (i.e. 1.5-3 mg xylazine / kg bw); Intravenous: 3-5 ml / 100 kg bw (i.e. 0.6-1 mg xylazine / kg bw)
Dogs – intramuscular, subcutaneous or intravenous: 0.15 ml / kg bw (i.e. 3 mg xylazine / kg bw)
Males – intramuscularly or subcutaneously: 0.15 ml / kg bw (i.e. 3 mg / kg bw). The action of xylazine begins 5-10 minutes after intramuscular injection, and after intravenous injection – in 3-5 minutes. The analgesic effect lasts for 10-15 minutes, and the sedative effect lasts 0.5-4 hours, depending on the type of animal. After intramuscular injection, the effect lasts longer. Partial weakening of the effect of xylazine can be achieved by the use of central antagonists of alpha2 receptors – adrenergic: yochimoines at a dose of 0.1 – 0.2 mg / kg body weight iv or tolazoline at a dose of 0.5 -1.0 mg / kg body weight iv. When administered intravenously, the drug should be warmed up to the body temperature of the animal and injected slowly.
