Albendazole broad spectrum anthelmintic
1 g of the drug (1 tablet) contains:
albendazole – 250 mg
Description
Tablets of light yellow or orange color, round or oval, flat.
Pharmacological properties
Albendazole belongs to the group of benzimidazoles, effective against adult and larvae of nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and lungs, cestodes and mature trematodes.
Inhibits the polymerization of tubulin, disrupts the activity of the cytoplasmic system of cells of the digestive tract of helminths and inhibits glucose metabolism, which leads to their death.
Albendazole is poorly absorbed when administered orally. Bioavailability when used on an empty stomach is approximately 5%, when consumed with food increases 5 times. The maximum concentration in the blood is reached within 2-5 hours. High concentrations of the drug accumulate in the liver, bile, cerebrospinal fluid, urine. The drug penetrates well through the blood-brain and placental barrier and is excreted in milk. Metabolized in the liver with the formation of active metabolites. Excreted mainly in the bile, partly in the urine. The average half-life is 8.5 hours, with impaired liver function, this time may increase.

For cattle grazing on pastures, therapeutic and prophylactic deworming is carried out at the beginning and end of the stall period.
At disease of ruminants on fasciolosis the drug is used at any time of the year. Depending on the intensity of the invasion, which is determined by the average number of fasciol eggs in five samples of feces, the drug is used in the following doses per 10 kg of body weight:
- up to 4 eggs (low intensity) – 1.3 g;
- 5-10 eggs (medium intensity) – 1.5-1.7 g;
- more than 10 eggs (strong intensity) – 1.7-2 g
Given that albendazole is ineffective against fasciol larvae, the first prophylactic deworming is carried out 2-2.5 months after the end of the grazing period, and the second – no later than 10-15 days before grazing animals on pasture.
Reservation
