Sedatyt (substance medetomidine hydrochloride) SEDATOR analog, 10 ml
Description:
Transparent colorless liquid.
Ingredients:
1 ml of the drug contains the active substance medetomidine hydrochloride -1.0 mg
Excipients: sodium chloride. propyl parahydroxybeisoate. methyl parahydroxybemate, water for injections
Pharmacological properties:
Medetomidine is an alpha 2-agonist, the mechanism of action of which is to inhibit the transmission of nerve impulses to adrenergic synapses due to competition with norepinephrine. Causes depression of the central nervous system and increased pain. The effect of medetomidine is dose-dependent: small doses have a moderate sedative effect without analgesia, while large doses cause a significant sedative effect and analgesia. When administered intravenously, the drug acts faster. With intramuscular and subcutaneous – more slowly.
After intramuscular injection, the concentration of the drug in the blood reaches a maximum in 15-20 minutes, is rapidly distributed in the body. Medetomidine is oxidized in the liver and partially metabolized in the kidneys. Most metabolites of the drug are excreted in the urine. The half-life is 1-2 hours.
Usage:
The drug is used in dogs and cats for sedation and analgesia of animals in unsuccessful surgeries and various clinical trials. When animals are not moved for their catching and transportation (in zoos, reserves, for catching stray animals), as well as to prevent aggression and timidity of animals. It is recommended to use before injection or inhalation anesthesia.
Dosage:
The dose of the drug for dogs and cats is adjusted depending on the type of surgery, the duration of the procedure, the desired effect, breed (dogs of small breeds require a relatively higher dose than dogs of large breeds) and body weight of animals and its individual characteristics.
The drug acts faster after intravenous administration, more slowly after intramuscular and subcutaneous. The maximum effect after administration occurs in 10-15 minutes.
Dogs: The
drug is administered intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously in a dose of 0.1-0.8 ml. per 10 kg. body. To maintain the effect of sedation and analgesia, the drug is re-administered 10-20 minutes after the first injection, as a result of which the effect of the drug is maintained for 30-180 minutes.
Cat:
Injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously at a dose of 0.05-0.15 ml / kg body weight, after which the effect of the drug lasts for 20-50 minutes. At long procedures repeated administration of a half dose of drug is possible.
Side effects:
After administration of the drug to animals, vomiting may occur, especially in cats, slow heart rate and lower body temperature, so animals should be kept warm for at least 12 hours. Atropine can be used to increase heart rate, but it should be borne in mind that it can cause arrhythmias. The effect of the drug can be eliminated by the use of an antagonist – Asedany (antipamizole hydrochloride). In case of delayed awakening, symptomatic treatment should be performed.

Heart failure, liver or kidney dysfunction of the respiratory system, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, pregnancy and lactation of females, exhaustion or weakening of animals, shock, increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug.
