Cefmetrin (cefapirin benzathine) syringe tube, 38 g (19g * 2 pcs)
Description
Suspension from white to slightly cream with a specific odor.
Composition
19 g of the drug (one dose in a syringe-tube) contains the active substance (mg):
- cefapirin benzathine – 640 (equivalent to 500 mg cefapirin)
Excipients: coliform CS12, coliform CS20, PEG-40, a mixture of fatty acids.
Pharmacological properties
ATC vet classification code: QG51A – Antimicrobial and antiseptic veterinary drugs for intrauterine use. QG51AA05 – Cefapirin.
Cefapirin has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including such as: Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis, Pasteureusbaculus. , Klebsiella spp., Neisseria spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Haemophilus influenzae and other pathogenic microorganisms that are released in subacute and chronic forms of endometritis in cows.
Cefapirin binds to and inactivates penicillin binding proteins (PBPs), which are located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall and are involved in the terminal stages of bacterial cell wall assembly and cell wall changes during growth and division. Their inactivation prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains required for the strength and rigidity of the bacterial cell wall. This leads to weakening of the bacterial cell wall and subsequent lysis of bacterial cells.
Cefapirin is resistant to penicillinase and retains its activity under aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
After administration, cefapirin from the uterine cavity easily penetrates the endometrium, where it is stored in bactericidal concentration for at least 24 hours. At the same time, it practically does not enter the systemic bloodstream and has no systemic effect. Therefore, its maximum concentration in blood plasma is only 0.11-0.13 μg / ml.
It is excreted mainly in the urine unchanged and as a metabolite – deacetylcefapirin, which also has antibacterial activity.
Application
The drug is used to treat cows with subacute and chronic forms of endometritis of bacterial etiology.
Dosage
Before the drug is administered, the external genitalia and the root of the tail are sanitized. If necessary, the uterine cavity is freed from inflammatory exudate.
The drug is administered to cows in the uterine cavity in a single dose of 19 g (content of one syringe-dispenser) using a catheter. The dosing syringe is shaken vigorously, connected to the catheter, and after rectal fixation of the cervix, the catheter is carefully inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity and the contents of the dosing syringe are squeezed out.
If necessary, repeat the treatment in 7-14 days in the same dose. Pre-administration of the drug Dinotrom, or other drugs based on prostaglandins F2α for 3-4 days before the use of Cefmethrin, especially for pyometra, significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment and eliminates the need for its repeated use.
Contraindication
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Do not use together with other intrauterine drugs that contain antibiotics.
Reservation
Slaughter of cows for meat is allowed 4 days after the last application of the drug. Meat obtained before this date is disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the opinion of a veterinarian.
