Description:
Ointment from gray-brown to dark brown with a specific odor.
1 g of the drug contains the active substance:
ichthyol – 100 mg.
Excipients: Vaseline.
Pharmacological properties:
ATCvetQM02AX53, veterinary drugs of local action.
Ointment has antiseptic, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, keratoplastic and local anesthetic effects; regulates vascular tone; restores blood circulation; reduces secretion and exudation; accelerates the regeneration of the affected tissue. The antimicrobial and antiparasitic action of ichthyol is due to the content of sulfur and aromatic substances.
The ointment causes a slight irritation of the sensitive nerve endings and reduces their sensitivity, relieves inflammation of the skin.
Application:
Treatment of cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats and rabbits with skin diseases (pyoderma, dermatitis, eczema, burns, frostbite, furunculosis); with arthritis, neuralgia, tendinitis, tendovaginitis, bursitis, myositis, mastitis, as well as diseases of the hooves and claws.
Dosage:
The ointment is applied externally in a thin layer on the affected areas of the skin and 2-4 cm around them 1-2 times a day until the clinical effect; with arthritis, bursitis, myositis, mastitis – lightly rubbed into the skin. The duration of treatment depends on the nature and symptoms of the disease, can last up to 14 days. Before applying the ointment, the skin area is cleaned of mechanical inclusions, dirt, exudate residues, wool. The amount of ointment for a single application depends on the size of the affected area of skin. To treat burns and increase the effect of the drug on the affected areas after applying the ointment, you can apply a bandage.
Contraindication:
Hypersensitivity to ichthyol.
Reservation:
Do not allow the ointment to get on the mucous membranes and in the eyes.
Do not apply ointment to milking and lactating animals on teats.
Ichthyol is incompatible in solutions with alkaloids, salts of heavy metals, iodide salts, ammonia solutions, glycosides.
With prolonged use, skin irritation is possible.
