Sedalin Gel (acepromazine) oral gel for Horses and Dogs, 10ml
Sedalin Gel is an oral sedative for horses and Dogs
Sedalin Gel
It is supplied in 10ml syringes of oral gel.
Sedalin Gel is a soothing gel in an oral syringe.
10ml syringe contains 350mg of acepromazine
Used for dogs and horses in cases where injection sedation is not suitable or not indicated.
It is used for cutting, treatment and brushing, forging, transportation, dressing, medical manipulations, etc.
Dosage and method of application:
the gel is applied to a piece of sugar, or directly to the root of the animal’s tongue.
Dogs:
Weak sedation – 1.0 mg of acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (0.5 ml Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of body weight)
The average sedation of 2.0 mg acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (1 ml Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of weight)
Deep sedation of 3.0 mg acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (1.5 ml Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of weight)
Horses:
Weak sedation 0.1-0.2 mg of acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (2-3 ml gel sedalin per horse weighing 500 kg)
Average sedation of 0.3-0.4 mg of acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (4-6 ml of gel sedalin per horse weighing 500 kg)
Contraindications, warnings, etc.
Do not use in animals in shock or after trauma, in the presence of severe emotional arousal / epilepsy.
Sedation lasts about six hours, although the actual time and depth of sedation depends on the condition of the animal. Increasing the dose leads to long-term effects and side effects, but not more sedation.
Do not use in cases of post-traumatic hypovolemia.
Side effects
Because acepromazine reduces the tone of the sympathetic nervous system, after its introduction there may be a short-term decrease in blood pressure. Acepromazine inhibits thermoregulation.
The following inverse changes are possible on the hemogram: transient decrease in number of erythrocytes and concentration of hemoglobin, and also counting of thrombocytes and leukocytes.
As this increases prolactin secretion, acepromazine may lead to impaired fertility.
Penile prolapse can occur due to relaxation of the retractor muscles of the penis. Retraction of the penis should be visible for 2-3 hours. If this does not happen, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian. Of particular concern in the breeding of stallions is the lack of retraction.
Use during pregnancy or lactation
Acepromazine should not be used in pregnant or lactating animals. Stallions have the lowest dose range to minimize penile prolapse.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
Acepromazine potentiates the action of centrally depressant drugs. Concomitant use of organic phosphate esters increases the toxicity of acepromazine. Because acepromazine reduces the tone of the sympathetic nervous system, it should not be administered concomitantly with drugs that lower blood pressure.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes) if necessary
Overdose leads to an earlier onset of sedative symptoms and long-term effect, causes ataxia, hypotension, hypothermia.
Withdrawal period
Not allowed for use in horses intended for further slaughter.
Incompatibility
Concomitant treatment with drugs to lower blood pressure should be avoided.
