ciprofloxacin hydrochloride – 0.0035 g,
dexamethasone – 0.001 g.
Excipients: water for injection, mannitol, sodium edetate (Trilon B), benzalkonium chloride.
Pharmacological properties:
ATCvet classification code: QS03 – other ophthalmic and otological veterinary drugs.
Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic antibacterial drug of the fluoroquinolone group. In terms of its antibacterial spectrum of action, ciprofloxacin is basically similar to other fluoroquinolones, but it has a relatively high activity, about 3-8 times more active than norfloxacin. The mechanism of action of ciprofloxacin is to suppress bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II), thereby preventing DNA replication.
The drug is active against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, and especially against E. coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Serratia spp., Camphylobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia spp. Vibrio spp., Aeromonas spp., Haemophilus spp., Are also sensitive to the drug: Brucella spp., Staphylococcus spp. (including penicillinase-producing and methicillin-resistant strains), Mycoplasma spp., Mycobacterium spp.
When using the drug by instillation into the ear or eye, the absorption of ciprofloxacin is negligible. It is excreted in the urine.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic fluorinated GCS that has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effect. By interacting with a specific protein receptor in target tissues, it regulates the expression of GCS-dependent genes and thus affects protein synthesis. It stabilizes lysosomal enzymes of leukocyte membranes, inhibits kinin synthesis, mitosis and migration of leukocytes, inhibits antibody synthesis and disrupts antigen recognition. All of these effects are involved in suppressing the inflammatory response in tissues in response to mechanical, chemical, or immune damage.
The duration of the anti-inflammatory action after the instillation of 1 drop of the solution is from 4 to 8 hours. When applied topically, systemic absorption is low. After instillation into the eyes, it penetrates well into the epithelium of the cornea and conjunctiva; at the same time, therapeutic concentrations are observed in the aqueous humor of the eye; with inflammation or damage to the mucous membrane, the rate of penetration increases. A small amount of dexamethasone enters the systemic circulation. About 60-70% of dexamethasone entering the systemic circulation binds to plasma proteins. It is metabolized in the liver under the action of cytochrome-containing enzymes, metabolites are excreted through the intestine. The half-life is on average 3 hours.
Application:
Treatment of cats and dogs with infectious and inflammatory diseases of the eyes and ears caused by microorganisms sensitive to ciprofloxacin.
In case of allergic processes of the anterior part of the eye, complicated by a bacterial infection.
And also for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory phenomena in the postoperative period.
Dosage:
The drug is instilled into the conjunctival sac or ear canal 1-2 drops 2-3 times a day.
The duration of treatment usually does not exceed 2-3 weeks. The duration of therapy is determined by the effectiveness of the drug and the likelihood of side effects.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Warning:
From the side of the organ of vision: rarely – allergic reactions, a feeling of heat after using the drug; with prolonged use – the development of secondary glaucoma, steroid cataract.
Use with caution in pregnant animals.
