YPOZANE 1.875 MG OSATERONE ACETATE FOR DOGS Virbac, 7 TABLETS
Ypozane is a highly effective drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in dogs. After treatment, the volume of the prostate is reduced by 40%, the therapeutic effect lasts 5-6 months. Reviews of those who used Ipozan in dogs, show that after a week of taking the drug improves urination, palpation does not cause pain.
Storage
Iposan contains as active substance osaterone acetate.
The drug is available in four versions: containing osaterone acetate 1.875 mg, 3.75 mg, 7.5 mg and 15 mg.
Pharmacological properties
The main active ingredient of Ipozan – osaterone acetate, is a steroid with progesterone and a strong antiandrogenic effect. Osaterone acetate competitively inhibits the binding of androgens to prostate receptors, as well as inhibits the uptake of testosterone in glandular cells. These processes do not affect sperm quality.
Pharmacokinetics
Ipozan is available in tablets. After oral administration, the active substance is rapidly absorbed (not more than 2 hours) and is mainly metabolized in the liver (first-pass effect). After discontinuation of the course, most of the drug is excreted in 14 days, mainly in the feces (60%) and to a lesser extent in the urine (25%).
Indication
Ypozane is prescribed for:
- benign prostatic hyperplasia;
- deterioration of urination on the background of BPH;
- impossibility of castration on medical grounds;
- to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention.
Application
The recommended dose is 0.25-0.5 osaterone acetate per kg of body weight once a day. The drug can be prescribed only to dogs weighing more than 3.75 kg. Ipozan is taken with food. Course duration – 7 days.

Monitoring
The clinical response to Iposan treatment occurs within a few days, a maximum of 1-2 weeks after the last dose and lasts, as a rule, 5-6 months. At the end of this period or earlier (if symptoms recur), the dog should be shown to a veterinarian to assess the condition and determine the need for further treatment.
Contraindication
Not indicated for dogs with liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatocellular adenoma.
Features of application
Ipozan is allowed to be used with other drugs, including antibiotics.
Side effects
In animals, testicular function is reduced, which is normalized after treatment.
In isolated cases, vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst and appetite. The symptoms go away on their own after the course of therapy. Accidental increase in dosage does not cause intoxication, plasma cortisol concentration decreases.
After the course of the drug, the positive effect lasts 5-6 months.
Use only in dogs.
