Storage

1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient:

megestrol acetate – 5 mg;

auxiliary substances: polyethylene glycol – 400 – up to 1 ml.

Pharmacological properties

Megestrol acetate is a synthetic progestogen that affects the animal’s hypothalamic-pituitary system and blocks the release of gonadotropic hormones (follicle-stimulating and luteinizing). With a lack of these hormones in the blood, the maturation of follicles in the ovaries of females is delayed, and the synthesis of testosterone is blocked in males, as a result of which estrus and sexual desire in animals cease. In pigs, megestrol reduces sexual activity and related behavior.

The mechanism of action of megestrol acetate has two main directions of influence on the body: antigonadotropic activity is manifested in suppression of the secretion of gonadotropic hormones and delay of ovulation, which is clinically a consequence of delayed estrus; the progestagen effect consists in a direct effect on the endometrium of the uterus, which activates the secretory phase, which inhibits the implantation of the embryo, enhancing the contraceptive properties of the drug.

Application 

Orally for gilts (for synchronizing sexual drive), with the aim of preventing or stopping estrus.

Dosage

Orally with food:

– to prevent estrus – 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight once every 20-25 days. After stopping the use of the drug, estrus occurs after 30-31 days;

– when synchronizing sexual desire after using the drug, simultaneous estrus occurs after 30-31 days;

Contraindication 

Do not use the drug in diseases of the genitourinary system, tumors, immature, pregnant and lactating animals. It is not recommended to use the drug if more than 3 days have passed since the onset of estrus, and young animals in their first estrus due to difficulties in determining the beginning of the cycle.

Reservation 

Slaughter of pigs for meat is allowed 14 days after the last use of the drug. The meat received by the specified deadline is disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the opinion of the veterinary medicine doctor.

With long-term use of the drug, a change in character, the development of mammary glands, an increase in appetite and a related increase in the animal’s body weight are possible.

Release form 

Glass or polymer bottles of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 ml (with a dropper cap or a measuring cup), which are placed in cardboard boxes.

Storage 

Dry, dark place inaccessible to children at a temperature of 5 °C to 25 °C.

Do not store together with food, drink and animal feed.

The shelf life  is 2 years from the date of manufacture
